The Modernist Chair | Furniture Design
[ Personal Project ]

The Ask: Design a chair inspired by a past personal struggle or difficulty and a randomly selected period
of art history.

The Solve: I created The Modernist Chair, inspired by my personal struggle with anxiety/depression and the Art Nouveau Movement. The structure of the chair is made from wood and glass to show how depression looks from the outside, versus what it might look like if you could see it clearly. The chair is made from modern materials, but it takes an unusual form, characteristics that classify the Art Nouveau Movement.

Depression: a complicated state of being. It can be difficult to see the struggle from the outside, but when examined, it is a complex jumble.
It is difficult to see through the
mass of complexities to the light ahead,
but when things become
clear, the view is breathtaking.
